MINDFULNESS BASED STRESS REDUCTION    FREE ORIENTATION

Modeled after the Stress Reduction Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

WHO WILL BENEFIT

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction will benefit people experiencing a variety of conditions and concerns.

• Stress - including work related, school, family, financial, illness, grief, uncertainty about the future, and feelings of being “out of control”.

• Illness and other medical conditions - including chronic pain, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, cancer, heart disease, asthma, GI distress, skin disorders, and many other conditions.

• Psychological distress - including anxiety, panic, depression, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

• Prevention and wellness - including health enhancement and wellness focused on prevention and learning how to take good care of yourself and feeling a greater sense of balance.

• Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a wonderful complement to traditional medical treatment and an aid in learning to live your life with more comfort and ease.

WHAT TO EXPECT

At the core of this program is the practice of Mindfulness, an ancient mind-body discipline.

Mindfulness is “paying attention to each moment, on purpose, with love and compassion and without judgment.”

Mindfulness is a natural human capacity—a powerful resource you can harness for coping, for growing and for moving towards greater levels of health and well-being.

Classes will include:
• Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practice
• An introduction to mindful gentle yoga practices
• A range of exercises to enhance awareness in everyday life
• Daily assignments
• Mindfulness CD’s, book and workbook.

Every class includes a lesson and experiential practice. Practices include: Sitting Meditation, Walking Meditation, Body-Scan, Sensory work, Gentle Stretching and more!

The course schedule consists of eight weekly classes and one day long class on a Saturday or Sunday at the end of the sixth week of classes. First and last classes will be three hours, all other weekly classes will be two and one half hours.
